THE IMPORTANCE OF ENGLISH LANGUAGE TODAY
Language is our primary source of communication. It’s the method through which we share our ideas and thoughts with others. Some people even say that language is what separates us from animals and makes us human. There are several factors that make the English language essential to communication in our current time. It is the international common tongue, English is essential in the field of education and higher studies! English also dominates the internet, press, travel and business.
THE STATUS OF ENGLISH IN WEST BENGAL
Indian Women and Youth Skill Foundation, an NGO, had done a random survey [2016-17] to check the condition of the students of primary and secondary levels based on their overall strength in English. The results were disappointing! We better not get into the blame game because that would not help us gain anything positive. All we can do is work on the areas of improvement and nurture the saplings who can develop into strong rooted trees in future!
“Expressive English” is a course created and modeled scientifically to help individuals of any age to grasp, speak and write correct English within a very short period of time. It has four different levels to cater to the English learning process of different groups.
1. Basic 3. Advanced
2. Mid Level 4. Post Advanced
1. BASIC
The Basic Level is for the primary students [classes- i- iv] and adults with below average literacy. It is a play-way method including phonetics, voice and accent, tongue twisters, introduction to parts of speech, reciting English rhymes, singing English songs, reading easy paragraphs with correct pronunciation, speaking on easy topics, sentence construction with vocab- words, listening to audios and watching videos to follow!
2. MID-LEVEL
Mid- Level as the name suggests is for the students of classes v- viii and anyone who has at least a medium base in English. This level includes detailed practice in the parts of speech, subject and verb agreement and tenses. Reading paragraphs, impromptu, more difficult vocabulary words along with audios and videos of higher standards are also included. Striking conversations and how to continue with the same for at least ten minutes are also taught.
3. ADVANCED
The Advanced Level is for the students of classes ix- xii and anyone who has a fair base in the language with medium fluency. In this level along with a thorough practice in grammar, paragraph writing, vocabulary, answering questions verbally, group discussions and brainstorming debates are conducted by the trainer. Self motivation and confidence building also play vital roles.
4. POST ADVANCED
The Post Advanced Level is for the youth to become employable. It includes Thomas Profiling, English grammar, vocab, speaking touchups, soft-skills, aptitude, resume building, personality development, corporate, business and professional etiquettes, building confidence to crack interviews, interview questions and mock interview sessions.
5. CONCLUSION
To conclude, it must be conveyed that each session in each level is highly interactive. Each trainee is equally involved by the trainer. So that not even the slowest learner ever feels left out. “Expressive English” is a means of the subjective and emotional development of the child or any individual, that is, development in terms of intellect, skills and feelings too. It has been structured on activity-based learning. It encourages creative skills and self-expression!
